Assisted in the physical move of's primary datacenter and a capacity upgrade. Completed installation of new power-management, network devices, and 150 servers before deadline. Re-engineered both internal and external networks for optimum use, increasing performance and ensuring network reliability. Implemented configuration management for all managed power and network devices and successfully integrated configuration management into existing revision control systems. Updated automation tools and scripts where necessary. Implemented capacity measuring and system monitoring for all managed power and network devices.

Contract Programming, Theme Park Photo, LLC

August 2007 - Present

Wrote a chat and social network information system over mobile-phone SMS to Theme Park Photo's specification. Took ongoing direction for use and feature integration from TPP and TPP's client. Specific goals were: to provide a performance-geared messaging system capable of processing 1,000,000 messages per day over 50,000 groups of individuals; to provide a flexible plugin-based processing system for later enhancement by the client; to ensure the resulting product components were easily swappable and changed without impact to other moving parts. Final product was backed on an asynchronous message queue using STOMP to pass serialized objects, with persistent user and client data in SQL, and multiple input and output channels such as IM, email, and web. Provided documentation for all moving parts as well as UML state diagrams.

Contract Programming, Simply Hired Inc.

November 2006 - December 2006

Wrote a change management application from the ground up to Simply Hired's specification. Took direction from the Operations Manager on platform, backend, features, and look-and-feel: the deliverable product was mod_perl under Apache with MySQL 5.0 utilizing an AJAX interface, suitable for Linux or Solaris. Deliverable was in put into internal use January 2007.

April 2006 - August 2006

Contract-to-perm system administrator for internal and production services. Maintained and deployed new nodes and services for a content deployment startup in San Francisco. Day-to-day tasks included content deployment, service load troubleshooting, application fault diagnosis and repair, short-term growth and scaling for the BitTorrent tracker, search, and streaming services. Additionally performed in-office desktop and user issues.

Contract Systems Integration, Riya Inc.

February 2006 - March 2006

Performed physical inventory of new and existing production nodes for Riya's image search product, and entered them into an instance of Password Management. Synchronized user accounts across all nodes, and ensured roles-based access management worked as expected. Instructed current system administration team on Password Management's use and functionality via in-person training and documentation. Wrote and deployed Riya-specific plugins for Password Management, meshing it into their tool and monitoring infrastructure.

February 2001 - October 2005

Systems administrator within Production Services. Maintained and managed as part of a team over 1000 individual production and development servers. Worked closely with software and network engineering groups to ensure the highest availability possible on several very large in-house software projects. Redeployed and maintained a nationwide network of AAA services based on RADIUS. Augmented system management tools with a focus towards automated OS and software deployment, metrics tracking and server availability. Developed Password Management for node and user management across hundreds of nodes with a programmatic REST API.

Made recommendations on and initiated changes for various backend systems and datawarehousing systems.

August 1998 - June 2000

Senior administration for Netcenter Operations. Architected, implemented, and troubleshot many of Netcenter's production user services, serving one of the top ten sites on the Internet in terms of raw traffic. Responsible for global traffic load balancing for web services across 7 domestic and international pops. Dictated and enforced new security policies, designed and implemented operational processes and procedures. Trained new operational staff and assisted with AOL operational integration during merger. Development of custom system monitoring tools for over 700 production hosts. Principle administration of DNS.
